In Dublin, Ireland a few years ago in front of a statue of Phil Lynott-bass player and lead singer of the band Thin Lizzy. They were the biggest rock band in Ireland until U2 came along.

Welcome to Library 50-Introduction to Library and Research Skills. My name is Bill Easton and I am your instructor for the class. I ask you in the first for the class to give a little student biography of yourself so I figure I should do the same.

I grew up in Orange County (Southern California) and started out my college career at Saddleback College, which is the community college for South Orange County. After getting my AA degree in Liberal Studies I transferred up to Humboldt State University in Arcata, California where I got my first BA degree in Political Science in 1989. After getting my degree I spent most of the 1990's surfing and working up and down the coast but in the meantime I got my 2nd BA from Humboldt State University in Social Sciences-Teaching Emphasis in 1998.

In 2001 I decided to go back to school and got my Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!!) in Tucson at the end of 2002. I then taught up at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon for 2 1/2 years then came down here to Monterey Peninsula College in 2005 and have been here since.

I have an extensive work experience outside of academia. I have worked in the wine industry, commercial fishing in Alaska, driving big-rig trucks, and a whole lot of other things. For hobbies I like to surf (though it gets harder as I get older), stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, reading, playing guitar (extremely mediocre ...please do not ask me to join your band) and traveling (to name a few interests).

If you have any questions or run into any problems while taking the class please let me know. This is a good first class if you have never taken an online class before. I want you to be successful in this class (and all classes) so my door is open to students.

Thanks and good luck in the class!!!!
